The Silk Museum project led me to thinking about the ancient silk route, the range of products traded, the practical issue of containers and vessels required for transporting goods, and the need to protect goods from the atmospheres along the way such as heat and dust. I also got caught up in the need to display samples as there would probably have been competition among the traders.
This led me to explore the idea of containers and use my imagination to produce fantasy vessels for silk threads and fabrics.
I also wanted to exploit the visual opulence of jewel, golden and jade type colours that we associate with the Far East.
